BEST CHEMICAL PEEL FOR ACNE SCARS

You’ve won the battle against acne, but the scars are still putting up a fight. A chemical peel is the perfect weapon used to combat these scars. The tricky part is deciding which peel is the right one for the job. A wide variety of chemical peels exist to treat different skin needs. However, only one is known to help reduce acne scarring above the rest.

TCA CHEMICAL PEEL REDUCES ACNE SCARS

Some peels are ideal for anti-aging, while others treat sun spots or outbreaks. A trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel is a medium depth peel that is most ideal for treating acne scars. This means it is able to reach slightly deeper into the skin than alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) peels, which are often compared to TCA peels. The TCA peel is known as a skin resurfacing treatment, meaning the peel removes any dead skin cells to uncover a new layer of skin. This new layer is smoother, softer and free of discoloration such as acne scars.

It is also worth noting that TCA peels are preferred to other peels that contain phenol because they have less of a bleaching effect. For this same reason, many doctors find TCA peels to be more effective on darker-skinned patients.

TCA CHEMICAL PEEL RECOVERY AND RESULTS

Recovery time for any chemical peel varies by individual. Within the first couple of days, redness and swelling will appear. Your doctor will advise you on cleansing your skin and if you should apply any ointments. After seven to 10 days, new skin will form and your skin may be pink for a few weeks.

To maximize your results, wait a couple of months. Despite the wait, many patients say the benefits are worth it and relatively long-lasting.
