THE BENEFITS OF GETTING BOTOX AT A YOUNG AGE

You’ve likely seen articles and videos about getting Botox in your 20s floating around on social media for a while now. But the truth is, preventative Botox is still a fairly new concept! At this point, you’re aware that Botox at this age is possible—but what are the benefits? The experts at Anders Dermatology are here to explain why you should consider Botox at a younger age.

HOW DOES BOTOX WORK?

To start, we’d like to share exactly how this injectable treatment fights off signs of aging.

Over time, the natural facial expressions you make begin to affect your appearance. Whether you notice it or not, muscles are constantly contracting and tightening, which eventually causes lines and wrinkles to form in the skin.

Since Botox is a neuromodulator, it is designed to be injected into these muscles and reduce their activity. By preventing their movement, you are also preventing the formation of unwanted lines, wrinkles and creases. (But don’t worry—the treatment doesn’t affect your entire face! You’ll still be able to make natural facial expressions.)

WHY DOES AGE MATTER?

Getting Botox in your 20s is more beneficial than opting for this treatment later in life. The reason is simple—at this age, you have plenty of time to address aging before it starts to happen.

Preventative Botox can only prevent lines and wrinkles if it is used on a patient who is not yet noticing them, or who only sees a very faint appearance. Once facial creases are too deep in the skin, Botox won’t function as well as it could on patients with less severe cases. For that reason, Botox oftentimes isn’t as effective on patients who are 40 years or older. At this age (depending on the quality of the patient’s skin), a large quantity of units and higher session frequency may be needed to see any improvement.
